MKG127 opened in Toronto, Canada in 2007. MKG127 has presented more than 100 exhibitions that engage in conceptual risk-taking, intellectual investigation, a fascination with materials and processes and include contributions from Canadian and international artists and guest curators. From the beginning, MKG127 received wide media coverage and critical attention from local, national and international press. MKG127 exhibited at Pulse Los Angeles and NADA Miami Beach in 2011, Edition Chicago in 2013, Papier 2014 in Montreal, UNTITLED Miami Beach from 2014-2018, Dallas Art Fair in 2015 and 2016, Villa Toronto in 2015, UNTITLED San Francisco 2018, 2019 & 2020 Art Toronto from 2008-2021 and Independent NY 2019.
During the Pandemic we participated in online fairs presented by Frieze (2020 & 2021), NADA (2020) and Art Toronto (2020) and presented an online exhibition of our own. In 2012 MKG127 relocated from its first location to a larger space to expand its programming. The larger space includes two gallery rooms and a 15 ft. outdoor lightbox for artist projects. In 2017, MKG127 commemorated its tenth anniversary with a special exhibition and publication.
Michael Dumontier’s fifth solo show at MKG127, Through the drywall, into the earth is a collection of improvised sculptures crafted from metal, wood, stone, fabric, and dirt. Hundreds of small handmade flowers and leaves line the gallery walls---populations in various states of decay, or in vivid changing colours---Competing with time, yet still compelled to bend towards the light.
